Forest Bathing (Shinrin Yoku)

forest bathing+ guides

Forest Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's)

forest bathing+ guides

Forest bathing is about slowing down within the natural environment. Through taking calm, silent, sensory walks and observing nature. In essence taking in the forest through our senses.

We are qualified Forest Bathing+ Guides working independently.

We were trained by The Forest Bathing Institute in the UK and are listed in the professional Global guide network with the Association of Nature & Forest Therapy Guides and Programs.

How does this happen?

Forest Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's)

By activating our parasympathetic system we invite our senses of smell, touch, vision, and hearing to join our walk.

When our senses are turned on it encourages our bodies to "re-calibrate" and take in the natural occurring compounds produced by the forest.

These volatile organic compounds, (VOC's), are produced by plants and have many significant properties.

These naturally occurring compounds, (VOC'S), camphene, limonene, myrcene and pinene are used in both conventional and complementary therapies.

Most of these compounds have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-depressive properties to name a few.

Essential oils, scented candles and fragrant house diffuser's are a few of the products that are made from these compounds.

There has been scientific research on how Lavender can reduce anxiety, aid sleep in different populations.

Studies looking at the effects of Forest bathing have found that some people found that their, blood pressure lowered or normalised, they were less anxious, slept better, had increased concentration and generally felt better in themselves.

Forest Bathing helps the body to naturally rebalance from the stresses and the effects of work and the amount of time spent in urban environments.
